FOW Abuse
I got to thinking about Fissure of Woe Armor (FOW), and about how it really means little or nothing anymore. Let's face it anyone with enough money can go on eBay and buy the materials needed, or spend a huge amount of time in the Fissure of Woe killing enough beasties To Make Fissure of Woe Armor. The second option which is the Road less traveled does not necessarily indicate that the wearer of the Armor is any more skilled than to say the average player, rather, it indicates that that person has spent an inordinate amount of time playing in the Fissure of Woe
My point is then how do you really make a set of armor that is recognized globally as being elite.
The solution is actually rather simple, instead of requiring that a person make multiple trip's to a certain location to gather materials from slightly enhanced Denison's, have the quest involve a series of harder and harder missions till a final climactic confrontation with some type of uber powerful creature. To obtain the armor this mission would only have to be done once for each character that wished to gain the armor and each person in the group would get the armor.
The main advantages to this idea are twofold :
1. You would eliminate the selling out materials to make said armor, because in order to reach the Armory where you can get to the armor you would have to complete all of the quest,(No Noobs in elite armor)
2. Elite armor would actually mean something!!!
Please let me know what you think, I for 1 am tired of seeing Noobs wearing FOW armor. It's too late to do anything about that but we can certainly prevent the next elite set of armor from being abused the way that FOW armor has been.

Once something like that comes up, there will be "guiding services" that charges $30 or 500k or something to take them to the armory. For example, if this area allows 8 people, they probably only need 6-7 experienced players to complete it, allowing for 1-2 to come for a "guided service". And trust me, no matter how hard they make it, people will find a way to beat 8-player missions with 6-7 people. (ex. 5-man SF farms, 4-man UW trap, 5-man FoW questing)

What you want harder to get armor to feel more leet and rub it others faces? It's ment to be a money sink and people like you turn it into a status symbol. Just leave the idea of it alone its hard enough for people who cant or refuse to buy gwgold to get it.

You May be right about such a service but look at it this way there are 2 things that will stop it.
1: it will take 6 or 7 real people to do it and you can build in protections such as the AI going after the weakest party member.
2: I seriously doubt that a multiple mission senario as I descibed would be profitable.

If you 'truly have skill' then you won't need armor to show it, because people would notice your name, and that would be your status symbol.

I agree with Avarre, if you have droks armor on and you beat a guy with FoW armor on, i feel that you actually shown as more elite than if you have FoW and beat a guy with FoW, plus in alliance battles you could say in public chat how you owned a dude with FoW gear with your Droks stuff, armor isnt status, skills are status!

Rank isnt a measure of skill. Its a measure of how much time you spend at HA.
Grinding =/= Skill
Grinding = Grinding
Skill = Skill

What the op is talking about is a way to show your accomplishments. If only they had something like badges or titles to show it...

Yes a money sink in game not a RW money sink on e-bay, as it is now.
There is plenty of ppl selling FoW armour run's on E-bay including Ectos and shards needed for a complet set.

I remember Gaile saying at one of her many Lions Arch events that there would be PVE emotes (yeah right) anyway I just think a really hard set of accomplishment tied together with a impressive reward ( that is hard or impossible to cheat and get) would be something worthy of me spending the time to do it.
And BTW I have neither bought or taken the time to gather the matterials to get a set of FOW as a matter of fact I donated over 80 Ectos to my guild for a FOW armor contest without entering ( simply because as a status symbol it has no meaning)

is it just me or you're complaining about how you don't have enough money to buy the armor (and maybe some other stuff)?
It's one thing to not admiring those who have the armor, but it's completely another thing to say it sucks because you can't get it.
On topic, the armor is fine as it is. As someone said, it's just a money sink.

The Cartographers title means you spent hours finding every last pixel, WooPee!!
And even though I have the Protector title on multiple chars Ive been told by the leet PVPers that they could do them blindfolded with one hand while being shocked by a monkey.
